The Things I Forget

More WEGO health blogging:

The Things We Forget. Visit and make your own version of a short memo reminder. Where would you post it?

A few of mine:

Yellow sticky note with line drawing of a menstrual cup and text, "Did you remember your cup?"

Usually, this is in the context of remembering to bring a cup with me in case I should spot or gush unexpectedly. Less frequently, it is a reminder to take it the fuck out again. (Please, ask me about the time I accidentally wore 2 cups for 2 days.)

Yellow sticky note with 6 blue ovals and the text, "Period starts tomorrow: double up your NSAIDs TODAY!"

Because I always forget and then am like, “Fuck, I need a time machine to go back to yesterday!”

Also, for anyone noting the pills and doing the math, 6 pills of OTC naproxen sodium at 220mg per pill = 1320mg spaced throughout my day. This is well within my provider’s — as well as general — prescribing guidelines for the first day of menstrual pain. Possibly it exacerbates my Crohn’s a bit, but that’s a “maybe” drawback with a definite benefit.

Yellow sticky note with text, "The reason it seems like no one understands what you're going through is because no one understands what you're going through."

This is 100% not any kind of pity party reminder. Rather, it’s because I tend to get depressed and exasperated because: 1) not a lot of people understand how endo works in terms of day-to-day limitations (which, admittedly, vary according to the individual); 2) even among people who are knowledgeable about endo generally, my endo is complex and insidious and not normal. Sometimes, I find myself tempted to believe that no one Gets It because no one cares — when really, at least part of the truth is that no one gets it because the science isn’t there yet.

So I do my best to advocate to make widespread the science that is as well as to support the science that might happen tomorrow — so maybe someone else won’t need these reminders quite so urgently as I do.

I'm here. I like stuff. Some other stuff, I like less.
